Runchuang (Ray) Ma

Runchuang graduated from California State University California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture before joining Urban Spatial Analytics program at University of Pennsylvania. During his undergraduate studies, he was particularly interested in integrating technology into sustainable design to solve societal and environmental problems. His academic experience in landscape architecture also built a solid foundation in geospatial data analysis and other crucial skills. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, he recognized the importance of expanding his expertise to tackle complex issues like climate change.

Such realization thus led him to pursue the MUSA program at UPenn where he aimed to gain new perspectives on solving pressing environmental problems. In the program, he enhanced his ability to process and analyze geospatial data using programming languages such as R and Python. He also learned how to properly visualize data and effectively communicate the insights derived from them. Furthermore, he gained valuable experience working with real clients through the MUSA Practicum and collaborating with diverse teams across various backgrounds.
