Yimin Gan
Yimin Gan holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Southeast University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Design: Advanced Architectural Design (MSD-AAD) at the University of Pennsylvania. His interests lie in rational design methodologies and the use of parametric tools to mediate between spatial logic and environmental performance.
In the Spring 2025 studio led by Barry Wark, themed Form and Environment, he and his team explored how architectural form can directly respond to solar conditions. Working within a nine-square grid inspired by Louis Kahn, the project used daylight as a generative parameter to reinterpret formal uniformity. The resulting design seeks a balance between systemic order and environmental specificity.
Yimin believes that parametric design, while technically advanced, is in need of a renewed craft ethos—something akin to a contemporary Arts and Crafts movement—reintegrating digital precision with material sensibility and architectural meaning. His current work reflects a broader pursuit of computational clarity, conceptual depth, and environmental responsiveness.
