Zachary Somberg

Zach is receiving his Master’s in City Planning with a concentration in Urban Design. His planning interests include public parks, heritage preservation, and community resilience. Before attending Penn, he worked at the Minneapolis Park Board and earned a Bachelor’s in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

During his time at Penn, Zach helped create flood resiliency plans for Barre, Vermont, as part of the City Planning Studio II. For his Capstone Urban Design Studio, he explored the potential for heritage preservation in South Philly's Industrial Waterfront. He also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Urban Heritage Project, contributing to a Cultural Landscape Inventory for Catoctin Mountain National Park and stormwater resiliency plans for The Rail Park in Philadelphia.
