Join PennDesign for a screening of The Phantom Tollbooth: Beyond Expectations—a documentary that playfully explores the creation, creators, lasting impact and enduring relevance of one of the most universally beloved children’s books of our time. Following the screening, we are pleased to host a panel discussion led by Leonard Marcus, children’s book historian, author, & critic, with Director Hannah Jayanti, and The Phantom Tollbooth author Norton Juster, AR’52. Norton Juster is an architect and planner, professor emeritus of design at Hampshire College, and the author of a number of highly acclaimed children's books, including The Phantom Tollbooth.
Leonard S. Marcus is a renowned historian and critic and one of the children's book world's liveliest writers and speakers. His highly acclaimed books about children's literature and the authors and artists who create them include, The Annotated Phantom Tollbooth.
Hannah Jayanti is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker and editor combining documentary, literature and video art to explore the world around her. She recently directed and edited her first full length documentary, The Phantom Tollbooth: Beyond Expectations, which premiered at the 2013 New Yorker Festival.
Following the discussion, Leonard Marcus and Norton Juster will be available to sign copies of The Phantom Tollbooth and The Annotated Phantom Tollbooth, which will be available for sale.
