We are SO excited to announce that Brick House, a monumental sculpture by artist Simone Leigh, has just been installed outside of Meyerson hall. Leigh’s sculpture has replaced Robinson Friendenthal’s Polyhedron Forms (Black Forest) which was painted steel. I believe I can speak for many that black forest was an interesting geometric work, but it seemed to get lost in the background. I do not think that there is any chance that Brick House will be overlooked, not only is it a 16 foot bronze sculpture, but it is both breath taking in its beauty and also what it stands for. ‘Brick House’ is an enthralling and powerful piece by one of the most consequential artists of our time,” said Frederick Steiner, Dean and Paley Professor here at Weitzman.
There is a nice article written with information about the artist and the piece itself, please have a read here if you are interested.
I will be on campus tomorrow to get our mail- I cannot wait to see this in person!
