This Friday, June 19, is Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865. To recognize this holiday our Dean, Fritz Steiner, has just sent out a statement declaring it a University holiday. “…As we reckon with all the ways in which our society has failed to deliver on the promise of racial equality that moment foretold, I believe it is an anniversary that deserves universal recognition by all Americans…” This is definitely a moment when I am proud to work for the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design!
