Welcome back to our blog series, Why Weitzman Wednesdays! Where we share statements from students/alums explaining why they chose Weitzman in hopes that it will help make your decision a little easier and show why Weitzman is the right choice for you!
Today we are featuring someone who is near and dear to all of us here at Weitzman, Joan Weston. Joan has been our Director of Admissions for 38 years and will be moving on to a much-deserved retirement. Not only that, but she is also a graduate of our Master of Fine Arts program. Her recruitment, organization, and overall welcoming and kind personality has played a huge part in the growth of the school over the years. She will be greatly missed but we wish her a wonderful and relaxing retirement filled with family, friends, and art.
Joan Weston, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, MFA
“I chose to pursue my MFA at Penn because of the talented faculty members and visiting critics of the time. Also, while there are many museums in Philadelphia, I loved that I could easily visit those in New York, Washington D.C. and Boston. My own private studio space was the cherry on top.
It’s been a long and enjoyable ride for me as the Director of Admissions for the Weitzman School of Design since 1984. I have met so many interesting people along the way and learned so much. I will miss it all, but I am excited to be able to spend more time painting, gardening, and traveling. I will not be a stranger to Penn and look forward to the next chapter in the Weitzman School of Design.”
