This studio is a design and research studio and part two of one taught last fall titled the Dubai Studio. We'll continue to study concepts around resilience through the lens of computational design. Sustainability in the Americas offers a narrow focus on building materials and assemblies as the primary solution to environmental stewardship while neglecting a more wholistic approach to living with and practicing resilience.
If we look to China and their effort to phase out carbon by 2050 and initiatives in Europe and Scandinavia, we see more radical, responsible and inventive research and planning to address global warming. Sir Tim Smit of the Eden Project in Cornwall and his teamwork across borders with agencies such as Mistra and the Stockholm Resilience Centre developing progressive frameworks to address the crisis we are currently facing. Our studio will design a state-of-the-art net-zero operation for both power and water use as a replacement facility adjacent to the Stockholm Resilience Centre site.
