Maria Sofia Garcia

Born and raised in Ciudad Ojeda, Venezuela, Maria Sofia is a 2022 Master of Architecture candidate at the Weitzman School of Design. She holds a Bachelor's in Architectural Design and a Minor in Urban Planning from the University of Florida, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

During her time at Penn, she served as a graduate teaching assistant for first- and second-year graduate students. Her work has been published and exhibited by Miami Dade College, the University of Florida, and the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, she was awarded the 2021 E. Lewis Dales Traveling Fellowship and the 2021 Atkin Fellowship.

Throughout her career, Maria has developed a passion for architectural representation and an interest in the relationship between line, geometry, and material. Her designs aim to evoke hybrid conditions in a three-dimensional environment as well as in their respective representations.
