Newark Airport City: The Future of the City

The focus of the studio was to put forward a plan to reshape Newark’s Dayton neighborhood into an Airport City—a place that bridges the economic success of an airport to its surrounding neighborhoods—that leverages Newark Liberty International Airport’s success to create a well-connected, economically robust, mixed-use neighborhood for the benefit of the entire city.

The goal for the project was to design a new mixed-use district where all residents could access daily goods, services, and amenities within 15 minutes of walking and biking. The Airport would be the key economic driver for the neighborhood, creating an affordable local hub of activity and life.
