I wrote a letter to myself at ten years old and in it, along with stating that my favorite candy was a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I wrote, “When I grow up, I want to be an architect.” My upbringing on the coast of Maine has had a major influence on my life – connecting me with the physicality of nature and its lessons in form, light, and composition, all of which have carried through to my work. It has also fostered a genuine appreciation of things that are real. The saturation of technology has led us to only ever see parts of a much larger, often digital, whole. For me, architecture counters this paradigm as it creates something that may be understood physically – something material, something real.
