A Strategy to Improve Knowledge About the World Heritage Site Among the Residents and Visitors

The primary challenge confronting Cartagena's World Heritage Site pertains to the inadequacy in portraying the historical significance and universal value inherent in Cartagena de Indias. This deficiency not only undermines the city's profound cultural identity but also hampers efforts to cultivate social cohesion within the community. The task at hand involves devising strategies to comprehensively interpret and preserve the fortifications, ensuring the safeguarding of Cartagena's heritage for generations to come, outlined here:

1. Develop a comprehensive interpretation strategy that effectively communicates the historical significance and universal value of Cartagena's heritage.

2. Foster community engagement and participation in heritage preservation initiatives.

3. Enhance social cohesion by promoting a shared understanding and appreciation of Cartagena's cultural legacy.

4. Implement measures to ensure the long-term preservation and sustainable management of the fortifications.

To address these issues, five tools were proposed:

1. Conduct thorough research to understand the historical context and significance of Cartagena's fortifications.

2. Engage with stakeholders, including local residents, historians, and community leaders, to gather insights and perspectives on heritage preservation.

3. Design interpretive displays and educational programs that engage visitors and locals alike, highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the fortifications.

4. Utilize innovative technologies, such as augmented reality and interactive exhibits, to enhance the visitor experience and promote active learning.

5. Collaborate with local authorities and heritage organizations to develop sustainable management plans for the fortifications, ensuring their long-term preservation and maintenance.
