Sticky Boxes
Drawing inspiration from Piranesi’s Campo Marzio plan, Sticky Boxes is a figure ground study on the play of exterior and interior. The figure of the box and oval was studied as a compositional way to organize varying voids, which in turn creates figural in-between solids. Boxes mirror and rotate about each other, allowing the arcs to create transition spaces to connect one box to another. The oval was studied as the result of overlapping circles, which then is used to slice through the figure-ground diagram to impose exterior conditions.
