Bachelors of Art in Fine Art & Minor in Fine Art
Art is a critical tool with which to understand the world. A goal of the Undergraduate Fine Arts program at the University of Pennsylvania is to facilitate an environment where the potentialities of art are considered in relation to the real life conditions of our students. Encouraged to test themselves against the rigors of divergent artistic approaches and their histories, our students develop a more complex set of skills to creatively and critically negotiate the turbulent shifts taking place globally in terms of human experiences.
The innovative atmosphere of a world-leading research university provides an exciting context for the program. The Undergraduate Fine Arts program BA degree is offered within the excellent College of Arts and Sciences. Our students benefit from a varied arts and sciences education in conjunction with the study and production of art. Additional benefits are accrued from the program’s active relationship to the university’s renowned Institute of Contemporary Art, Penn History of Art, and the many distinguished departments of the School of Design.
The Undergraduate Fine Arts program offers courses in animation, communication design, film and video, painting and drawing, photography, and sculpture and is an integral component of interdisciplinary degree programs in Digital Media Design, Cinema Studies and Visual Studies.
