Graduate Admissions

I know we said the application for 2018 would open on September 1 but it looks like we're running a bit behind with updates to the system. Stay tuned; we hope to have it up and running by next week.

Orientation on Friday was a lot of fun, culminating in a special BBQ Happy Hour! Now that the fun is over, classes begin today. It IS good to have all the students back again!

Where did the summer go? We are thrilled to meet the incoming class at New Student Orientation today on the plaza in front of Meyerson Hall. It seems like just yesterday that we were in the same spot, congratulating the graduating class in May!

West Philadelphia’s tall trees and beautiful gardens may just be our favorite thing about being in University City. To celebrate and share the history of gardens in this area, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is hosting a two-hour walking tour of the community gardens of Powelton Village and West Powelton, two neighborhoods just steps away from PennDesign.

Last Thursday, the sixth annual Dîner en Blanc (White Dinner) was held in Franklin Square in Center City. In case you haven’t heard of this event, you must wear only white and bring your own table, chairs, food, wine, utensils, etc. The location is always a surprise, so it is truly a pop-up affair.

Earlier this summer the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation announced their plan to transform Philadelphia’s Municipal Pier 9 into the Cherry Street Pier. The project’s goal is to create a working, social, and commercial space for collaboration between entrepreneurs, makers, and artists in the city.

The affiliation of architect Louis Kahn with PennDesign is well-known, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have the exhibit “Louis Kahn – The Power of Architecture” come to his home town of Philadelphia. It will be showing at The Fabric Workshop until November 5. Don’t miss it!

Architecture’s Summer Preparatory Studio’s final projects are finished! Some truly excellent work. If you’re in the area, stop by the Lower Gallery in Meyerson Hall. It won’t be up for long!

Penn has an amazing Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology right down the street from Meyerson Hall. If you haven’t been, definitely go! On Sunday, they are holding a tour of their Egyptian galleries. This is your chance to get a guided tour of one of the most impressive collections of Egyptian artifacts in the world. You can get in free with your Penn ID card.

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is holding Pop-Up in the Plaza today from 11 to 2. Delicious food, lively music, and merchandise from the PAFA Museum Store featuring student art work, handmade jewelry, home goods, and more. Think I'll run over there on my lunch hour!

Our Architecture Summer Preparatory Studio is working on their final project. Here’s day 1. Looks like a mess, doesn’t it? Stay tuned, we’ll post a photo or two once they’re finished!

Did you know we have an orchard on our campus? I didn’t! I just found out that right past the tennis courts is a whole orchard/garden. Right now there are strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, goji berries, peaches, apricots, and currants. Stop by…and read more here.
