Amanda Nicole Gruen

I am interested in architecture and the built environment from various contexts, particularly preservation. Prior to attending Penn, I worked as an architectural researcher at a firm in New York while also working as an educator for a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the architecture of Manhattan’s Upper West Side. I have studied and written about architectural history, urban design, and historic preservation within these roles, and my interest in architectural research started early on; immediately after my undergraduate studies, I wrote for the Architect’s Newspaper. In addition to the Master of Architecture from Penn, I earned my Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Pratt Institute and my Bachelor of Arts in Urban Design & Architecture Studies from New York University. Upon graduation, my plans include working at a New York City firm that specializes in the adaptive re-use, restoration, preservation, and conservation of historic structures and districts.
