Throughout six years of college from LA to Philly, I have always pursued challenges, multi-perspective experiences, and new friendships. Whether as a biology major or an urban planning newbie, I found myself driven by crowds and conversations where my curiosity could be satisfied, critical thinking skills horned, and creativity appreciated. Coming into this program, I was asking "where would I fit in?" My question has gradually become "how can I unlearn things I thought I was good at"? and "what can I really contribute to the world in this life?".
While I enjoyed technical practices in software like ArcGIS and R, I discovered that I learn more efficiently with a mix of team and individual work. Both involve processes of "unlearning"; with my workshop/studio groups that were incredible in giving feedback and caring for each other, I developed a clearer understanding of my mistakes heuristically. It has been in these processes that I found my cause in environmental planning and social justice. Moving forward, I will forever cherish the mentorships and friendships along the way.
