Rebeca Sanchez Contreras

My name is Rebeca Sanchez Contreras. I am originally from Mexico City. However, I have spent most of my life in Winchester, Virginia.

I have a great passion for travel and expanding my understanding of the world. During my time at Penn I have had the opportunity to travel to Athens, Paris, Guatemala City, and study at the AA in London. This opportunity has allowed me to learn about numerous languages, cultures, architecture, and ways of thinking.

This semester I had the privilege to participate in the Landscape Architecture – Ciudad de Guatemala Hotspots Studio. This studio allowed me to take my interest in social architecture to the urban scale. I also had the opportunity to use my language skills to serve as a translator for my colleagues during our travels in Guatemala. This studio experience allowed me to bring together my architectural skill set and international experience to develop a project that focused on urban growth while fostering ecological restoration and conservation.

These travels and experiences at Penn have afforded me the opportunity to develop and refine a skill set that will be invaluable as I move forward in my career.
