Rentian Liu

Rentian is a student from the M.Arch program. Before his enrollment in Penn, he got his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Liverpool in 2014 and worked for Kengo Kuma & Associates during his gap year. There he learned to appreciate the relationship between user and architecture through diverse levels of details and material exploration. His previous experience working on projects with detailed-oriented schedules taught him to balance his work when his studies became more aggressive at Penn. Combined with his creative thinking of adaptive reuse, he developed an interest in the relationship between user and architecture and the transition from public to private spaces, which guides him to keep producing new architecture for the future. His design work experiments with the overlaps between and among film, installation, paint, theory, and building. In the coming month, Rentian will receive his Master of Architecture degree.
