Combinatory Campus: Sonshan Lake Science and Technology Convention Center

Never static, the contemporary city is dynamic, unstable, and increasingly difficult to trace as a linear process. The contemporary city has liquefied into dispersed urbanity and a constellation of polynucleated attractors. These attractors, or downtowns, host architecture as a network with infrastructure as its center of mobility. Combinatory Urbanism offers an alternative method of urban organization that integrates flexible frameworks of relational systems within which activities, events, and programs can organically play themselves out. It engages the premise of continuous process over static form, identifying the socio-political imperatives of architecture while pushing formal organizational possibilities. Songshan Lake Science and Technology Convention Center, located on an island in the Songshan Lake Park, will be developed as a scientific and technological innovation hub to become the core engine promoting the regional economy.
