London Studio
Our studio uses the city of London and its architecture as the base of its study. We take organized walks around London to get a sense of historical make-up of the city from its Roman origins to the present. Each year we take a subject to do with the dynamic formation and development of the city and use our time and physical presence on the ground in the city as an opportunity to understand its architecture and our special relationship to the city. The students are offered specific sites in the city for their design project. The project focuses on interrelationship between the architecture of buildings and that of the city.
Student focus on a design project on a given site in London. The design process involves analytic reading of the specific texts in design and in words, offered in each studio. They help frame the design concepts to be developed in diagrams and physical models as well in the detailed development of the project. The project’s integrity in relation to both the textual analysis as well as its relevance to the analytic reading of the site and the city are crucial.
