A Greater Bay Area? 2.0. Speculations on Technologically Conditions Future Urban Public Realms

This studio uses China’s recently introduced Greater Bay Area (GBA) initiative as a point of departure for undertaking intensive, design-speculations that critically consider the potential implications for emerging technologies at the core of the GBA initiative on the socio-spatial form and identity of the public realms of the Pearl River Delta’s extant urban centers, circa 2049. This studio intends to visualize plausible urban futures, moving beyond novel extant conditions, for the purpose of shaping the public imagination around the potential socio-spatial implications of what a particular policy-driven urban future may hold.
