Profile
Alison Dell, PhD is a biologist and artist combining research training in molecular biology with visual arts, drawing with and about biology in print and works on paper as well as biodesign. Passionate about diversifying approaches to and participation in science and art, Dell is co-founder of Art in the Lab- an ongoing series of free public events bringing scientists and artists together for events that mix drawing and laboratory work. Dell received her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, mentored by Jon Raper following pre-doctoral research at Columbia University in the lab of Dr. Jane Dodd. Both doctoral and pre-doctoral work examined cell signaling in developing neurons and continue to inform her current projects in biodesign and bioart. Alison is a Biorealize Biodesign Fellow (2020-present), and 2019 Cultivo alumna.
