Art is a practice, a passion, a profession and a position from which to engage the world and the challenges of the contemporary moment. The Department of Fine Arts cultivates an expansive and dynamic approach to teaching artists that prioritizes diverse perspectives, multi-disciplinary methodologies and rigorous experimentation. Led by a faculty of internationally recognized artists and practitioners, the Department offers a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with majors and minors in both Fine Arts and Design. Students follow an individualized course of study supported by sustained collective dialogue and collaboration, engaging the skills and technologies of art-making and the intellectual and theoretical discourse necessary to ground themselves and their work. In times of calm and in times of crisis, art offers air with which to breathe–opening visual, sonic, verbal and bodily pathways that carry us forward into the future.
