Pronouns: she/her/hers
Hometown: Newark, DE
Education Background: Virginia Tech, Bachelor of Urban Policy
How did you get interested in your field?
While I began my undergraduate education in Architecture, I found that I loved problem solving on the community level, ultimately graduating with a degree in Urban Policy. In my third year at Virginia Tech, I took a course called Urban Regional Analysis, which uses statistical modeling techniques to forecast population trends for municipalities. It was this class that sparked my interest in the use of quantitative analysis for the use of public decision making – a topic I have been able to explore more widely since beginning graduate coursework.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
After graduating in 2020, I worked as a Business Intelligence Analyst!
Why did you choose Penn?
I loved that Penn offers a well-rounded curriculum for studying the many facets of public life. I am particularly interested in quantitative analysis, so I loved that I would have access to the Master of Urban Spatial Analysis curriculum, which focuses on data science and model building to be used in the public sector.
What has been your favorite class so far?
Public Policy Analytics!
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
Growing up close to the city, I have a lot of great memories of going to concerts and checking out all the museums! Right now, my favorite museum is the Barnes Foundation (which is free for Weitzman students!).
What are your career ambitions?
My ideal career would be working to bridge the gap between data scientists and public decision makers. Data is becoming increasingly important to every aspect of public life, and I would love to use my skills to communicate ethical data practices to support climate-forward policies.
