Profile
Hometown: Bhopal, India
Education Background: Bachelor of Planning
How did you get interested in your field?
I found my interest in the final year of my undergrad while experimenting with my thesis based on transportation planning. Growing around the massive Transit Developments in the cities I have been, it drove me specifically to explore more in public transportation and policy. The complex nature of the transit also keeps me hooked on its relationships and implications with equity, financial sustainability, and energy.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
I worked with Deutsche Bahn GmbH, Bhopal with the ongoing project of Bhopal Metro Rail development and later I was involved with DULT, Bangalore in the Impact study of Bangalore Metro phase I on the real estate sector.
Why did you choose Penn?
Foremost reason is the strong city planning community and the ability to design your curriculum which gives you freedom to explore the intersections of your interests.
What has been your favorite class so far?
It’s a TOUGH question.
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
Haha! The best part is the UPenn Campus. Also, I really like to take a stroll around Schuylkill River with some freshly brewed coffee and the weather of the Philly grows on you.
What kinds of activities and/or organizations are you involved in?
I am currently serving as a copresident of the Transportation Club. I am also a member of the Weitzman real estate club. Apart from this, my favorite activity is Yoga, and Hiking. (Penn has a graduate Hiking club – which organizes hikes every other week!!)
What are your career ambitions?
I am looking forward to work in the urban transportation domain with the focus on the equity, finance, and energy. One of the goals is to work towards streamlining the last mile connectivity for the marginalized communities in the Asian cities.
