Education Background: Architecture Background
How did you get interested in your field?
I was first introduced to historic preservation in undergrad, doing window restorations and brick repointing. The school then began offering historic preservation courses, and they were terrific. In the summer of 2021, I had a fellowship with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and there I fell in love with the field.
What was your background before coming to Penn?
Before coming to Penn, I studied architecture and received my bachelor's of architecture from Tuskegee University.
Why did you choose Penn?
I chose Penn because of its hands-on learning approach that gives students real-world experience.
What has been your favorite class so far?
My favorite class so far would have to be Building Pathology. In that class, I learned the science behind how buildings function and eventually decay over time.
What are you learning right now that will help you in the future?
I am currently learning how to manage historic sites so that I may give sound recommendations to future clients on managing and maintaining their historic sites.
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
I like that there are always fun events and festivals to go to. They help me explore the city and show what Philadelphia has to offer.
What are your career ambitions?
I aspire to be a registered architect working on preservation-focused and new construction projects.
