How did you get interested in your field?
I have always been interested in sustainable architecture as an undergraduate, however was lacking specific strategies on how to achieve and understand it. Climate change is a crucial problem in our society right now and buildings are contributing to a lot of the emission that are accelerating it. I want to be involved and lead that process.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
Prior to Penn I graduated from my with a B. Arch. During my time there, I participated in research for a year at RPI’s CASE (Center for Architecture Science and Ecology) in projects such as new materials from waste, urban vertical farming, and climate adaptive façade panels. I also had internships at architecture and contracting firms in New York City.
Why did you choose Penn?
I chose Penn because of its focus on research and evaluating building performance in the EBD program. The future of sustainable design is directly impacted by technological advancement. I appreciate that this program is technology focused yet also engages theory and thought-provoking discussions. The EBD program at Penn is established and focused which makes it unique from other universities.
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
I love how historic Philadelphia is and that it can be seen through its architecture. I also enjoy spending time in the many art and history museums as well as trying new restaurants and bars! Each neighborhood has its own vibe which is cool to see.
What kinds of activities and/or organizations are you involved in?
In addition to my studies, I work at the Fisher Fine Arts Library. I hope to be more involved in the Weitzman Student Council.
What are your career ambitions?
I want to work for a firm that specializes in environmental building design, focusing on these strategies and building performance during the design process. After a few years of professional experience, I hope to earn my architecture license and/or return to academia as a professor.
