The Department of Architecture welcomes Witold Rybczynski for his lecture, Why Ornament Matters, and the launch of his book, The Story of Architecture. He will give an illustrated talk about the different roles that architectural ornament has played in buildings over the ages, from ancient Egyptian temples to Rockefeller Center.
Witold Rybczynski is an architect and writer, and the Martin and Margy Meyerson Professor of Urbanism Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, He is the author of 22 books and numerous articles. He has been architecture critic for Wigwag and Slate, and was awarded the Vincent Scully Prize, the Cooper-Hewitt's National Design Award, the Anthony J. Lukas Book Prize, and the Arthur Ross Award for Publishing.
