The Schuylkill River (pronounced 'skool-kil' or in the Philadelphia accent 'skoo-kul') runs through the middle of Philadelphia, separating the Center City District and the University City District. There has been much discussion, planning, and project implementation surrounding the banks by the Schuylkill River Development Corporation over the past decade to improve the sites along the river and create open and inviting locations for warm weather activities and events.
Kayaking, biking, running, fishing, skateboarding, and yoga are among some of the popular activities on and along the river; you can see a full list of activities here. There has also been an increase in scheduled events along the banks, including kayak tours, movie nights, and riverboat tours; you can see the full list of upcoming events here. Next up for their movie series? Labyrinth starring the late, great David Bowie.
