Tour: Penn's Meeting and Guest House- Adaptive Re-Use of a West Philadelphia Twin

In 2019, the University of Pennsylvania began the process of converting an 1898 West Philadelphia twin, owned by Penn since the 1950s, into a Meeting and Guest House for prominent visitors to campus. The project involved a combination of restoration and new construction and was designed by Deborah Berke Partners of New York. Building Conservation Associates, Inc., was the restoration consultant for the historic structure to remain. Join Dorothy Krotzer (HSVP ’00) and Preston Hull (’16) of BCA for a discussion of the evolution of the project’s design and construction, as well as the philosophical and technical preservation challenges along the way.
