Printing During Finals - Fall 2023

Announcement Date
Tuesday, November 21, 2023 - 12:00

Dear Students,

As we move into final reviews, it is important to be aware of the best practices in printing to simplify your workflow when sending your prints.

All important information for printing is located at our Printing & Scanning webpage.

Please review the 5 points below to avoid the most common mistakes that lead to extended wait times and print failures.

  1. Save your print job to the Desktop at Print Stations and Lab Computers as opposed to the Downloads folder, which results in longer wait times and print failures.
  2. Follow the steps in Adobe products to format your file. If files are not rasterized and flattened, the print process will be problematic. https://www.design.upenn.edu/sites/default/files/PDF%20Document%20Prepa…
  3. JPEGS will not print on the Large Format Plotters. Do not send JPEG files. Preferred formats are PDF and TIFF.
  4. If you have a multi-page PDF, print 1 page at a time. 1 of 4, 2 of 4, 3 of 4, and so on. Multi-page documents often fail to fully process through the server.
  5. Print as early as possible before your final review to avoid the stress that can occur when the print server becomes bottlenecked in printing traffic.

The HelpDesk Staff would like to offer training on how to change paper and ink to anyone interested. This skill will come in handy if you plan to work later in the evenings, early mornings, and over the weekend. Please email ithelp@design.upenn.edu to set up a training session with Kaitlin.

Thank you,
Weitzman ITS
