MLA ’15 grad Helen Yu’s independent studio project is currently being featured in the World Landscape Architecture online magazine. After joining workshops in refugee camps in Lebanon, Helen undertook a critical examination of the UNHCR guidelines for refugee camp planning with a view to developing a new landscape infrastructure approach to camp design. Within the reality of camp conditions her design research sought to maximize water and nutrient retention in situ and embed the necessary infrastructure and spatial organization for communities to easily cultivate productive gardens in direct relation to semi-autonomous housing. The research was supervised by Richard Weller and David Gouverneur.
