Six PennDesign students are developing two alternate proposals for a new urban district on the site of the former Paya Lebar airbase in Singapore. Led by assistant professor Christopher Marcinkoski, the student teams are preparing their schemes as part of the Vertical Cities Asia International Design Competition, an event organized by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the World Future Foundation. The competition asks design students from 10 select universities from around the word to speculate on future configurations of urban form on a given site at a density of no less than 100,000 people per square kilometer. The students will present their research and design proposals to an international jury of design experts during a four-day symposium at NUS in early July 2015.
