PennPraxis provides geospatial data analysis and expertise on planning the built environment to the Communication Neuroscience Lab's "Geoscanning" project. This project involves a number of studies which seek to examine the relationship between exposure to tobacco advertising and built environment risk factors to observed behavior and certain brain activities. Using a wide variety of data sources, including retailer data, census information, GPS data and CT scans, this project integrates medical, behavioral and public health data using a geographic lens. Fichman's role involves creating data routines for handling GPS data, building and analyzing a spatial database, and developing statistics and analysis routines for the research group.
