Hometown: San Luis Obispo, CA Education Background: B.A. in Classics and Chemistry
How did you get interested in your field?
I first become interested in historic preservation when I visited Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA as a kid and saw the conservators restoring a 15th century Spanish monastery roof.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
I graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2022 and moved back to my hometown. I worked at a donut shop and took art classes at the local community college until I decided I was ready to apply for grad school.
Why did you choose Penn?
I chose Penn because of how varied their historic preservation program is. The degree spans from conservation science to public history to design, which offers many possible avenues for study and future employment.
What do you like best about Philadelphia?
I love how walkable Philly is! I can get almost everywhere I want to go on foot or by hoping on the bus or trolley. And I’m always noticing new things about all the historic buildings, especially in the neighborhoods around campus.
What kinds of activities and/or organizations are you involved in?
Outside of class, I work as a research assistant for a professor in my department and I’m looking forward to taking part in the events that the Preservation Student Association puts on.
What are your career ambitions?
Because of my background in Classics, I would love to one day work on an Ancient Greek or Roman building or site.
