Starr teaches a section of the Preservation Studio for second-year students. In addition to her work at Penn, Starr is the Director of Preservation at Patronato San Xavier, a nonprofit organization that funds and directs ethical conservation, conducts scientific research, and conveys the significance of Mission San Xavier del Bac, an active Catholic church in the community of Wa:k, part of the Tohono O’odham Nation. Starr has been involved at San Xavier since 2018, when she co-authored a Conservation Management Plan for the site, a PennPraxis project. Since then, she has been working directly with the organization to implement the plan, from developing preventive maintenance protocols to overseeing major conservation projects. In addition to her work at San Xavier, Starr also teaches and serves as program chair for the Heritage Conservation Graduate Certificate Program at the University of Arizona. Starr holds a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of Arizona.
