Karyn Tufarolo

Karyn Tufarolo is the Director for Faculty Affairs at the Weitzman School of Design, where she guides the recruitment, promotion, and retention of a distinguished faculty. Karyn coordinates with the Dean, Departments and Programs, as well as the Provost’s Office, to manage faculty appointments and tenure reviews. She also provides guidance for standing committees, supports University faculty initiatives, coordinates policy information, and assists with various aspects of faculty planning.  

Karyn advocates for an inclusive environment for all members of the Weitzman community through coordinating various events, discussions, reports, and related communications. Beginning in 2019, Karyn served on the team to lead the launch of our first Executive Program for Social Innovation Design, an online/hybrid certificate for professional development. She coordinates with others across campus to guide new initiatives for online learning at the Weitzman School.

Karyn joined Penn in 2015 and has over 20 years of experience in higher education administration, with a focus in art and design. She previously served as the Assistant Director of Professional & Adult Programs at the University of the Arts, which included a Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources grant for k-12 educators. She holds a BA in English with Fine Arts from Elizabethtown College and an MA in Museum Studies: Communication from the University of the Arts. Karyn grew up in central PA, enjoys all sorts of art & cultural events, serves on the Advisory Council for the East Passyunk Community Center, and volunteers as an architectural tour guide for the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
