On March 5-6, 2020 Curator Bill Whitaker and Archivist Heather Isbell Schumacher presented at Anne Tyng: Ordered Randomness, an event organized by Women in Design and Architecture at Princeton University’s School of Architecture. The conference explored Anne Tyng’s work within and beyond the field of architecture and discussed how she continues to influence design today. Bill Whitaker served as part of a roundtable of designers, curators and architects who worked with Anne to create the 2011 exhibition, Inhabiting Geometry at the Institute of Contemporary Art. He recalled the process of exhibition design and the relationship he built with Anne over the many years he has worked in the archives. Heather Schumacher discussed the scope of the Tyng Collection at the Architectural Archives, how one might use unconventional materials to understand Anne’s distinctive creative process, and the future of archives in architectural education.
