In March, the Architectural Archives welcomed Liliane Weissberg and graduate students from her Inside the Archive class for a tabletop tour and discussion. The session, led by Curator Bill Whitaker and Archivist Heather Isbell Schumacher, engaged the class with drawings, photographs, models and correspondence from the Louis I. Kahn Collection, and discussed the journey of the objects from creation to archive. Curator Bill Whitaker demonstrated how one can draw out stories from the creative and building process through deep engagement with the archives. Student interest drove the dynamic discussion—archivists’ decision making processes, collection building, access, ownership, preserving and interpreting born digital records—among other relevant topics. The Architectural Archives invests significant time and energy into developing and facilitating these customized collections tours and welcomes all collaboration with faculty—both at Penn and beyond. See Penn Today for more about the class.
