Dorit Aviv: Beyond Surface

Dorit Aviv is a designer and researcher specializing in the fields of energy and ecology. Currently a Ph.D candidate at Princeton University, her work investigates the relationships between thermodynamics, geometry and material science. She joined PennDesign as a Lecturer in Fall 2018.
Prior to PennDesign, Aviv taught at The Cooper Union, Pratt Institute, and Princeton University and has practiced in design roles at Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, KPF New York and Shanghai, and Atelier Raimund Abraham. She earned an M.Arch and certificate in urban planning from Princeton University’s School of Architecture and Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy in 2014. She completed her B.Arch at the Cooper Union in 2009.
Recently the curator of the energy pavilion in the 2017 Seoul Biennale for Architecture and Urbanism along with Forrest Meggers, her design projects have been previously featured in the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and The New Museum Ideas City. Her work has been supported by a number of grants and awards including a Tides Foundation grant in 2015, the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Prize for exceptional achievement in architectural design in 2014 and the AIA Henry Adams Medal in 2009.
