Eric Bunge, AIA, is a co-founding principal of the New York City based firm nARCHITECTS and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University.
nARCHITECTS is an emerging internationally-recognized practice based in New York City led by Eric Bunge, AIA, and Mimi Hoang, AIA. Ongoing work includes the design of MY MICRO NY, winner of New York Mayor Bloomberg’s adapt NYC competition for micro unit housing, the Wyckoff House Museum in Brooklyn, and Pierscape at Chicago’s Navy Pier, a competition-winning project led by James Corner Field Operations (in construction). The firm’s recent work has focused on scales ranging from buildings and interiors to public space design. Recent examples include Manhattan’s Switch Building (recipient of an AIA Building Type Award), the ABC Department Store Facades in Beirut, Lebanon (recipient of an AIA NYS Merit Award), the bamboo MoMA/P.S.1 Canopy (recipient of an AIA Design Honor Award), and Forest Pavilion in Taiwan (recipient of an Architect Annual Design Award). nARCHITECTS is currently retained by both the NYC Parks and Recreation and the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s Design Excellence programs.
Recent recognition includes their selection in 2012 as a Highly Commended firm in the international WAN (World Architecture News) 21FOR21 competition. That same year, Wallpaper Magazine named nARCHITECTS one of twenty “world’s most intriguing young practices,” in their Architects Directory 2012. Awards include a New York Public Design Commission Award, two AIA NY Design Honor Awards, an AIA NY State Merit Award, an AIA NY Design Merit Award, an AIA NY Building Type Merit Award, an Architect Annual Design Review Honorable Mention, The Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices (2006) and Young Architects Forum (2001), an AR+D Mention, Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard, the MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Program, and two New York Foundation for the Arts grants.
Eric received a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from McGill University. Prior to founding nARCHITECTS, Eric lived and worked in Paris, London, Calcutta, Boston, and Montreal. In addition to teaching at Columbia University, he has taught at Harvard GSD, Yale University, University of Toronto, Parsons School of Design, and UC Berkeley. He is a recipient of the Canadian Professional Rome Prize.
