A new article by Gideon Fink Shapiro (PhD'15) titled "Kiruna, Forever Changing" has been published in the August 2020 issue of Places Journal.
Shapiro's article reviews the recently opened exhibition Kiruna Forever, curated by Carlos Mínguez Carrasco at ArkDes in Stockholm.
He argues that the show "asks viewers not simply to accept one or another image of the place, but instead to recognize the instrumentalizing nature of most such images, and to peer into the historical, architectural, cultural, and political machinery of image-making and place-making."
Shapiro's forthcoming book from University of Pennsylvania Press analyzes Adolphe Alphand and the landscape architecture of public parks in 19th century Paris.
