Moderator: Soany Marquez is a designer, artist, and activist who has always been interested in architecture as a form of activism and artistic expression. Born in Honduras, she is constantly pushing boundaries in her education focusing on diversity and inclusivity for women. She is a recent graduate from the City College of New York where she received her Bachelor’s in Architecture and former member of NOMAS (National Organization of Minority Architecture Students). In college, she was twice awarded the Castagna scholarship that allowed her to study abroad and expand her global perspective of architecture. As a first-generation Honduran graduate, she feels underrepresented in the architecture field because of the lack of Latin American mentors, professors, and colleagues. She is aware that architecture can be a powerful tool to pave the wave for social reform, and one of her many goals is to bring more diversity and inclusion for Latinas into the architecture profession.
