What are the Design Olympics? - Teams of student, staff, and faculty from each dept are invited to compete in 3 design challenge events.
Team Configuration – Participants can join a team the day of the event or register a 3-person team in advance using the register tab on this page or the flyer's QR Code. (At least 3 to 4 people per team)
Spectators – We encourage additional classmates, faculty and staff to come socialize and show support.
• Opening Ceremony – Weitzman - MLK Community Poem Reading
Following a reading of the MLK Weitzman Community poem by Annenberg student ambassadors a brief update on the school's transition to Weitzman Engagement + Community WE+C will be provided for all in attendance followed by the introduction of teams and game rules.
• Design Challenge #1 - Best Weitzman Engagement + Community Logo Design
Teams will be provided with materials to come up with a logo design for the WE+C website. The best design will be used on the website and for the purposes of WE+C branding and messaging schoolwide engagement + community events, activities, and promoting service opportunities. In addition, teams will be asked to propose a title for the Weitzman MLK Community poem. The proposed logos and poem title will both be judged on creativity and clarity of message.
• Design Challenge #2 - Best Timed Lego Build of a Community Space
Teams will have equal access to a large pool of Legos. Each team will have a set amount of time during the event to create an on-the-spot model of the ideal community space. The completed models will be judged on aesthetics, creativity, effectiveness, and the amount of time taken to complete the build.
• Design Challenge #3 - Best Team Conscious Music Karaoke Performance
Each team will be provided the opportunity to perform an inspirational song as a group. Team performances will be judged on creativity, originality, spirit and teamwork.
