David Malda is a key design leader at GGN. His work explores the role of landscape design in connecting people to each other through experiences of the land. In projects such as Hemisfair Civic Park in San Antonio and Owámniyomni Okhódayapi in Minneapolis, David’s approach emphasizes strengthening relationships among communities and the land already in place before adding anything new. This approach emphasizes the importance of history, memory, and narrative as central to the design approach and results in projects rooted in their place with impacts that extend far beyond their site boundaries. David emphasizes drawing and making throughout the design process, and he shares this knowledge in numerous studio reviews, student engagements, lectures, and essays. David holds a Master in Architecture and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.
