Douglas Nickel: Indeterminacy and the Photograph

For the past forty years, deliberation on photography has been preoccupied with essence: does photography have a nature? Is it indexical? Or found in the "this-has-been" rendering of past events? This talk seeks to move beyond definitions tied to a means of production to consider what happens when we also attend to issues of reception and response in the photograph. A different, more indeterminate object is the result.
