This continuing education opportunity is offered to historic preservation practitioners in conjunction with the Weitzman School's HPSV 7390 Masonry Seminar, taught by Roy Ingraffia and Casey Weisdock. There are five spots available for non-students/practitioners. Tickets cost $250.
Priority registration for Historic Preservation alumni will begin Monday August 21. Registration will open to general public on Monday August 28. Registration will close on Thursday September 7 at 12:00pm.
Students will work with Master Stone Carver Jens Langlotz. Several different textures in dressed stone masonry will be reviewed and students will learn which chisels to use in order to get the chosen texture. The process of creating a straight planer surface will be demonstrated. Wear appropriate work clothes, long sleeve pants and closed-toe shoes. Additional PPE will be provided.
As a master sculptor and carver with more than 30 years of experience, Jens Langlotz has worked with and mastered the major design building styles — from Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance, to American Colonial and American Victorian stone carving. He graduated from Fachschule Fur Steintechnik in Munich. He has apprenticed under master sculptor Hans Kupe, one of Germany’s leading stone restorers, and under Al Walters, master craftsman in stone, metal, and wood. He served as head stone mason for both Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn Museum, and he has also done work for many other buildings including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Villanova University, Princeton University, Reading Terminal, Philadelphia City Hall, and the New Jersey Statehouse.
