Troy Michie is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City. The nature of his work
is in dialogue with the political discourse of collage as a medium, often subverting a
dominant narrative by placing signs from the past in confrontation with the present. He
received his BFA from the University of Texas at El Paso and his MFA from the Yale
School of Art in Painting/Printmaking. He has received grants and fellowships from the
Rema Hort Mann Foundation, Art Matters, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council,
Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Fine Arts Work Center, and Recess
Art. Michie’s work has been shown nationally and internationally including group
exhibitions at the New Museum, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Contemporary Arts
Museum in Houston, the Artist’s Institute, the Stedelijk Museum s’-Hertogenbosch, the
Leslie-Lohman Museum and his first solo exhibition at Company in New York City. His
work has also been reviewed by the New York Times and Art In America.
