This past summer the Emlen Physick House- a house museum in Cape May, New Jersey, hosted an exhibition of architectural drawings by Penn Alumni. Cape May is known for its beautiful Victorian homes, but in the 1970's Cape May residents didn't pay the historical homes much attention. In the late 1970's Perry Benson, a Penn graduate from 1973 in Architecture, was recruited to document the building, inch by inch with pen and paper. Benson was part of a team of architects who were mostly Penn alumni. Thankfully Benson kept just about everything from that project- architectural drawings, original photos and even the drawing tools. Karen Fox, who curated the exhibition Capturing Cape May’s Architecture: The Making of a National Historic Landmark stated that " “More than just documentation, these drawings are art,” and thus the exhibition unfolded.
